Applebee's Happy Hour Guide: Half-Price Appetisers, Times and the Picks Worth Ordering
Happy hour at Applebee's is not really about the drinks. Plenty of chains discount cocktails; Applebee's built its happy hour around food, cutting a set of appetisers to half price twice a day. If you time it right, two people can snack their way through the best of the starter menu for about the cost of one entrée. Here is how it works, when it runs, and what to order.
When Happy Hour Runs
Applebee's publishes no single national timetable, but the typical pattern at participating restaurants is two windows every day, weekends included:
Afternoon: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- Late night: 9:00 PM until close
Each franchise sets its own schedule, and the weekend afternoon window is the one most likely to move, so it is worth a quick call before a Saturday trip across town. The late-night session is the more dependable of the two — at a restaurant closing at midnight, it runs a full three hours.
The Rules Worth Knowing
Dine-in only. The half-price appetisers do not apply to takeaway, Carside To Go or delivery apps.
Half price refers to the regular menu price. Your restaurant's starting prices should sit close to the standard ones listed below; the discount is then rounded by the restaurant.
It does not stack with other deals. You cannot combine half-price appetisers with the 2 for $25 — you pick one promotion per visit.
The priciest platter may be excluded. The Classic Combo, at $18.99 the most expensive appetiser on the menu, is the item restaurants most often leave off the half-price list. Ask before ordering it with the discount in mind.
State laws carve out the drinks. A handful of states — Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, North Carolina, Alaska and Utah among them — ban time-limited drink discounts, and Indiana bars drink specials between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM. The appetiser discount still runs in those states, because the laws cover alcohol, not food.

The Picks, Ranked
1. Chicken Quesadilla (about $6.00). The best plate of the window. A grilled tortilla loaded with chipotle-lime chicken, Monterey Jack and Cheddar, bacon and pico de gallo — and, at half price, one of the most filling things six dollars can buy in a sit-down restaurant.
2. Mozzarella Sticks (about $5.00). Eight thick-cut sticks with warm marinara. Nothing clever, just the cheapest route to a proper happy hour table, and reliably the first thing a group finishes.
3. Boneless Wings (about $6.50). Breaded white-meat chicken in your choice of sauce — Classic Hot Buffalo, Honey BBQ, Sweet Asian Chile or Garlic Parmesan. The highest regular price on the core list, so the biggest cash saving per plate.
4. Spinach & Artichoke Dip (about $5.25). The social order: a warm, shareable dip with tortilla chips and chipotle lime salsa. Less filling than the quesadilla, better suited to a table that is grazing rather than eating.
5. Chicken Wonton Tacos (about $5.75). The lightest option at 590 calories — sweet Asian chile chicken in crisp wonton shells with slaw and coriander. Order these if you want happy hour without the heavy aftermath.
6. Brew Pub Pretzels & Beer Cheese Dip (about $5.50). Warm Bavarian-style pretzel sticks with beer cheese and honey Dijon. Comforting, but at 1,160 calories it is a meal disguised as a starter.
What About Drinks?
Drink offers are set locally and restricted in some states, so there is no honest national price list. What the standard menu tells you is the baseline: the signature Mucho cocktails sit between $9.99 and $11.99, there is a $10 Don Julio Mucho Margarita, and a $6 Bacardi Rum Cocktail is among the cheapest alcoholic drinks in the building. One thing not to plan around: the $1 Dollarita was a limited promotion that last ran in July 2026 and has ended.
Happy Hour or 2 for $25?
They solve different problems. Two half-price appetisers come to roughly $11 — ideal for drinks and a snack. The 2 for $25 buys a full-size appetiser and two full entrées, runs all day rather than in windows, and is the better answer when everyone at the table is actually hungry. Choose by appetite, not by habit.
